MONUMENTS
- Talking about Antequera means talking about its wealth in monuments. The first human settlements in the area are from the year 2500 BC, as its proven unspoilt archaeological complex, i.e. dolmens Menga, Viera and Romeral have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
- The many archaeological findings, such as the statue of the Ephebe, the Arab baths, the mosaics in the stately mansions dating from Roman and Arab times, and all the tools and vessels reveal the antique cultural wealth of the city.
- The Alcazaba (an Arabic fortress), as well as the civil and religious buildings, complete this rich architectural inventory of the city.
NATURAL LANDSCAPES
- El Torcal Natural Park is a natural labyrinth made up by limestone, which will stun visitors. The paths are marked in order to facilitate the visit to this amazing Natural Park which represents one of the most beautiful natural places in Europe.
- The mountainous area where Antequera is set gave rise to other wonders of Nature: Los Gaitanes narrow pass, an exceptionally deep gorge, the perfect place for climbers.
- Fuente de Piedra Lagoon, the biggest lagoon in the south of Europe which hosts one of the biggest colonies of Mediterranean flamingos.
CULTURAL EVENTS
- Regarding festivities in Antequera, we highlight Easter, due to the beauty of the images which date from ancient times.
- The spring festivity, largely celebrated, will fill our fields with colours.
- August is the time for the “Royal Fair”, where leisure time and tradition join. Typical Spanish bullfights are celebrated in a party which lasts until dawn.
