Within the information about the current situation of the organisation of the Championship, the Executive Committee reported that 17 countries are already registered, among the first powers in this sport, a practice which has one of the highest levels of the sports organised in the university field.
The number of teams participating in the last edition of the Championship held in South Africa was 20. However, for the 13th World Championship, which will be held on Antequera, Pedro Montiel is quite certain that the record of participation will be beaten with 22 participating countries.
This is the second meeting for the Organising Committee. The last 21st October, the rector of the University of Málaga, Adelaida de la Calle and the mayor of Antequera, Ricardo Millán, signed an agreement of support and collaboration between both institutions for the holding of the World University Golf Championship. This event was entrusted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the University of Málaga, and it will be played between the 7th and the 11th June in the sports venues of the Antequera Golf club.
Before the World Championship, the University Golf Championship of Spain will be held in the same course, in order to test the organisation of the tournament in June. The University of Málaga has asked this event for to the Spanish Council of University Sports (CEDU) and it has been conceded. The national university tournament has already been played twice in Antequera.
